Heritage & conservation roofing.
Listed buildings, conservation areas, churches - traditional roofing done the old way.
Listed buildings and conservation-area properties need specialists who know what the planners will accept. Lime mortar, Welsh slate, hand-made clay tiles, dressed lead. We work with local planning, conservation officers and Historic England where needed, and we have the fixers to do it properly.
When to call us
If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a call. A free survey will tell you what's actually needed - and whether it's a repair or something bigger.
- Listed building or conservation area property
- Natural slate or hand-made clay tile roof
- Cement-pointed ridges on a pre-1919 building
- Lime-mortar buildings with modern cement repairs visible
- Welsh slate, Cumbrian green slate or natural stone roofs
- Parapet gutters or lead valleys needing renewal
How we approach heritage & conservation roofing.
Heritage roofing isn’t just domestic roofing with expensive materials. It’s a different discipline - lime mortars that breathe, hand-dressed lead details, salvaged materials where originals can be saved, liaison with conservation officers and Historic England where a job needs it. We work to LPOC and SPAB-aligned methodology on listed and conservation-area buildings.
For listed buildings, we help you navigate the Listed Building Consent process before work starts - or, if consent is already in place, we work strictly within its terms. We know Durham Cathedral Chapter, Durham County Council conservation, Historic England’s regional team and most local authority conservation officers across the North East.
