Dry-ridge & dry-verge systems.

Mechanical fixing, ventilated, maintenance-free - what current Building Regs require.

Old mortar-bedded ridges fail. They crack, they let water in, and they let pigeons nest behind them. A mechanical dry-ridge system is screwed down into the timber, ventilated, and guaranteed for the life of the roof.

When to call us

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth a call. A free survey will tell you what's actually needed - and whether it's a repair or something bigger.

  • Mortar falling out from between ridge tiles
  • Ridge tiles visibly lifted or loose
  • Pigeons nesting where a ridge cement bed has failed
  • Verge tiles at the gable end cracked or missing pointing
  • Previous ridge work done in cement that keeps cracking
  • Older property with original bedded ridges (30+ years)

How we approach dry-ridge & dry-verge systems.

Mortar-bedded ridges are obsolete. They crack, they let water in, they harbour nests, and every ten years someone has to fix them again. A mechanical dry-ridge system is screwed down into the timber, ventilated through the apex, and guaranteed for the life of the roof. Current Building Regulations require mechanical fixing on all new-build and re-roof work - there’s a good reason.

We strip the old bedded ridges off completely - no point half-doing it. Fit a ventilated ridge batten mechanically to the rafters, then fit dry-ridge units that clip and screw down to the batten with butyl seals on every joint. Verge ends get the matching dry-verge system: a clip-over unit that replaces bedded mortar at the gable. Both come with 10 to 15 year manufacturer warranties.
